The Formality Of Nonsense, Mixed, cCook, 2011 |
Hi all. This is one of those experimental pieces from last summer. I never really thought it was going anywhere until just now when I heard this Tom Waits song (for the first time). Suddenly it all made sense in a weird way. I just had to chuckle. He's definitely talking about me. I'm also the one peeping at the strange old man next door. I suspect everyone else could say the same. What do you think?
I'm doing a couple commissions at the moment, no time to blog--lots of very cool ideas brewing, though.

Did you ever consider that someone may be looking at you, and wondering what you are building in there?? You might be building, oh, I don't know, some formal nonsense or other.
I love the textures of your work, always so interesting.
Hey Dan--Great to hear from you. Exactly. I have no doubt there are people out there thinking that about me. I like it. It helps to maintain a bit of mystery here in the dungeon of art, where all the magic (nonsense) happens. And it covers up the fact that I'm just a normal dude, lost in the sauce (in this case various combinations of Elmers and cement). I'm chomping at the bit to get a little free time for the new stuff. There's mystery ingredients involved! Teehee.
William...thanks for sharing the Waits video. It's just before 8am here, so I still have a clear head for things like this!

Hey John--Thanks for checking in. That old Tom is something else isn't he?
I like your textures too Bill. I was just at Dan's place and saw this post on his sidebar. It made me wonder what was up with you and how did I miss this post on my side bar? Anyway, now I haven't. This texture has color, strong color for you. But then it reminds me of a relief impression of a tire track. I like what you've built in there.
Hi Linda--Another absence, I know. I've been trying to develop something very new--paper. I don't know whether I'll end up making paper to draw on, or just letting the paper be the art. All kinds of stuff ends up in the pulp, you know. Wild stuff. Nothing to show yet, but I'm getting close. I like the tire track comment--and by the looks of it, I wonder what it was that I ran over. Til the future.
